What we offer
For some people we are a learning centre, a community theatre for others, a venue for live music, we have facilities to screen cinema, a Wi-Fi Internet Café, a charity shop or just somewhere to sit down and have good quality meals and meet friends in our café.
Why so many Activities
Whitby and district is a geographically isolated rural community with a higher than average proportion of low-income households and an ageing population. For many in our community if a facility is not available in Whitby then it is effectively inaccessible to them. To counter such social exclusion we provide a broad range of activities, each on a relatively small scale. Grouping small-scale services under the Network umbrella develops a synergy and allows more flexible, cost effective use of resources. This also gives new projects a bank of experience and support to draw upon, making them more resilient than would be possible on a stand alone basis and thus improves their success rate.
Our Ethos
We aim to encourage and support people; to recognise that everyone has a valuable contribution to make to their own community. Much of our work is undertaken by volunteers, who are people of all ages, from all walks of life and with all levels of physical and mental abilities. Without their commitment and enthusiasm most of our services could not continue.
The Coliseum Café
The Coliseum Cafe for both the local community and for users of the Coliseum itself, it offers good quality and varied meals offered at reasonable prices.
