Banderilles Picasso Linocut

Picasso Comes to Whitby

A new touring exhibition, which includes 45 outstanding original linocuts after Pablo Picasso, printed in 1962, is sweeping across North Yorkshire and is a rare chance to buy his work.

The show comes to The Coliseum, Victoria Place, Whitby, YO21 1EZ, Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd October, 10am – 5pm and entry to the exhibition is free.

“Pablo Picasso was born in Spain in 1881 and was to become the most famous, versatile, prolific and influential artist of the 20th century,” says Scarborough based exhibition organiser, Marc Goldmark.  “Whilst the ownership of an original painting is, for the majority of us, out of the question, Picasso’s prints are still relatively accessible.”

Faunes et Chevre Picasso Linocut

The works exhibited are typical Picasso, bacchanals, women, bulls and bullfighters, and this stunning collection offers a unique opportunity for viewers in North Yorkshire to see and purchase linocuts by this incredible artist.

With prices starting at just £350, this is an amazing chance to acquire a linocut by the world’s favourite artist.

For more information go to www.goldmarkart.com.

The show is sponsored by Goldmark Gallery which has been selling great 20th century art all over the world for over 30 years.  Based not in London but in Uppingham in Rutland you can see more of the work they offer at www.goldmarkart.com.

More about Picasso and the linocuts:

Between 1958 and 1961 Picasso made many linocuts, a process that he found hugely stimulating. These linocuts were first issued in signed editions of 50 by Galerie Louise Leiris, many of which now sell at between £8,000 and £80,000 each. Picasso invented the ‘reduction’ method, progressively cutting the same linoblock for each new colour, making it impossible to take any further prints from the original plates. In 1962, in collaboration with Picasso and Galerie Louise Leiris, new linoleum plates were made at 42% of the original size, and it was from these that the prints on offer here were made.

Stephen Joseph Theatre: A Number / Twenty:20 (Double-Bill)

Title: Stephen Joseph Theatre: A Number / Twenty:20 (Double-Bill)
Location: Whitby Coliseum

Date: Thursday 2nd & Friday 3rd September, 8pm

A Number / Twenty:20 Plays (Double Bill) Poster

The Stephen Joseph Theatre Company present a double bill of plays on two days (both plays performed on both days) at Whitby Coliseum.

A Number by Caryl Churchill + Twenty:20 by James Quinn

A Number by Caryl Churchill

Bernard’s life is thrown into turmoil when he discovers he has been cloned. Questioning his father, Salter, Bernard delves into his past to reveal a series of unpredictable twists and turns and decisions which have had irreversible consequences for him and his ‘brothers’.

What is it like to be one of a number? And are they truly identical? Is it possible to capture something perfect?

Set in the near future, this intriguing play explores the ‘nature versus nurture’ debate and dares to ask the unanswerable questions that strike at the very heart of what it means to be human.

What a tremendous play this is, moving, thought-provoking and dramatically thrilling
The Daily Telegraph

From the award winning author of Top Girls, Cloud Nine and Serious Money.

Twenty:20 by James Quinn

Featuring the voice of David Lloyd (Bumble)

“What do they know of Cricket, that only Cricket know?”
CLR James

Headingley Carnegie. July 2013. Ace Yorkshire batsman Rick Fielding has been called up at the eleventh hour to represent his country against the old enemy: Australia. The problem is that whilst Rick is a superstar of ‘Twenty20′ cricket, he’s never played a test match in his life. Can he possibly squeeze in a match winning innings between a celebrity photo shoot for ‘Hello’ and the quarter finals of Strictly Come Dancing?

This hilarious one-act play takes the audience on a whirlwind tour of today’s short attention span world, where Tweeting has replaced the art of conversation, and all we can hope for is 24 hours of wall to wall reality TV.

Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd September, 8pm.
Tickets £8, Concessions £6.50 available direct from The Coliseum

Rob Rouse

Star of 8 out of 10 cats, Friday Night Project & Spoons, Rob’s triumphant return to Edinburgh last year won him fantastic critical acclaim. A sell-out festival run, followed by a national tour took his trademark comedic storytelling to a career high. This year Rob is knuckling down. Girlfriend, toddler, dog… check! However, you can’t live off high spirits and adrenaline forever, the honeymoon’s over. Now the hard bit; sorting himself out.

The Hut People plus Maia – Live Music Performance

Title: The Hut People plus Maia – Live Music Performance
Location: Whitby Coliseum
Description:

The act that got 2 standing ovations at Musicport 2009: THE HUT PEOPLE
Accordion and percussion but with an unexpected twist.

‘This is about as elclectic a range of music as you ould wish to find: From Finland to Brazil and all stops inbetween, Sam Pirt (the piano box man from the band 422) plays various large accordions – we’re talking 96 and 120 bass here, with cunning switches on top you can nudge with your chin – while Gary Hammond (erstwhile jazzer and member of The Beautiful South) plays all sorts of percussion. And I mean all sorts: never mind the obvious like tambourines, djembes, congers and triangles, this chap also does zambumba, red cyclops, caxixi, static whip and cabasa amongst others.’

plus MAIA
Excellent young acoustic/alternative band from Huddersfield – trumpet, banjo, percussion, guitar and vocals.
